Linear Assets
Linear Asset Network Definition
Establish the linear asset register and network topology in IFS Cloud - defining linear assets (pipelines, roads, powerlines, railways) with their length and unit of measure, breaking them into segments and elements, connecting linear assets to form a network, and linking to design objects for revision control.
Linear Asset Work Management
Plan, schedule and execute work orders against linear assets and their segments - preparing work orders tied to linear asset context, executing preventive and corrective work, pre-posting costs to sections, and completing/mobile execution with full integration to standard EAM work processing.
Linear Asset Inventory & Register Management
Maintain the linear asset register over its lifecycle - managing status and revisions, characteristics, connected equipment/design objects, element types and connections, and full historical audit (created, modified, connected, status change, fault) at linear asset, segment and element level.
Linear Asset GIS Integration
Integrate linear assets, segments, elements and work orders with Esri ArcGIS via IFS Cloud GIS Map - connecting business objects to GIS features, configuring layers/object dialogs and actions, enabling bidirectional navigation, and supporting map-based work, dispatch and fault reporting.
Structured Cable Plant Moves, Adds & Changes
Manages moves, adds and changes to the structured cable plant - backbone, horizontal, patch panel ports and cross-connects - as controlled work in IFS Cloud. Each MAC is raised as a Service Request or Work Order against the cable plant object structure, executed through Work Tasks with reserved patch cords and trunks, and closed only when the link test certificate and the as-built administration record have been updated. Records are kept to TIA-942 infrastructure and TIA-606 administration requirements so documented plant always matches installed plant.
Cathodic Protection Annual Survey & Remediation
Drives the statutory external corrosion control cycle in IFS Cloud: annual pipe-to-soil testing at intervals not exceeding 15 months, bi-monthly rectifier and interference bond checks, and prompt remediation of any deficiency. Readings are captured as Measurements against CP test points and rectifiers held as Functional or Serial Objects, and out-of-criteria results automatically raise remediation Work Orders inside the mandated completion window.
Pipeline Integrity Management
Manages the end-to-end integrity management programme for midstream transmission pipelines in IFS Cloud, from registering pipeline segments as Linear Assets with High Consequence Area coverage through threat and risk assessment, baseline and reassessment planning, and remediation scheduling. Assessment cycles are held as Maintenance Plans / PM Actions so that the regulator-mandated five-year (not to exceed 68 month) reassessment intervals generate Work Orders automatically. Anomaly evaluation outcomes drive prioritised remediation Work Orders against the immediate, 60-day and 180-day condition categories.
Pigging & In-Line Inspection
Covers cleaning pig runs and smart-tool in-line inspection campaigns on midstream transmission pipelines, executed in IFS Cloud as Maintenance Events and Work Orders against the pipeline Linear Asset and its launcher and receiver Functional Objects. ILI vendor results are loaded as anomaly measurements positioned along the line, then classified against the regulatory immediate, 60-day and 180-day condition criteria. Verification digs are raised as Work Orders and their field measurements are fed back to validate reported tool tolerance.
Cathodic Protection & Corrosion Management
Runs the external corrosion control programme for buried transmission pipelines and terminal assets in IFS Cloud, registering rectifiers, anode beds, test stations and bonds as Functional and Equipment Objects on the pipeline Linear Asset. Regulator-mandated inspection frequencies are held as PM Actions - rectifier checks six times a calendar year at intervals not exceeding two and a half months, and annual protected-pipeline testing at intervals not exceeding fifteen months. Pipe-to-soil potentials are captured as Measurements against the NACE SP0169 criteria and readings outside criterion raise Fault Reports and corrective Work Orders.
Overhead Distribution & Transmission Line Patrol and Inspection
Recurring visual and instrumented patrol of overhead distribution and transmission circuits, executed as ground patrol, aerial or helicopter flight, drone and LiDAR survey, and post-event damage assessment. In IFS Cloud the circuit is carried as a Linear Asset segmented span-by-span with poles, crossarms, insulators and switchgear held as Functional Objects against those segments, and patrol cycles are driven from Maintenance Plan / PM Action definitions that generate Work Orders and Work Tasks per segment. Inspectors record condition codes as Measurements/Parameters and raise Fault Reports for defects, which are triaged into priority bands that feed corrective work, wildfire mitigation and the asset health model.
Wood Pole Inspection, Treatment & Replacement Program
The cyclic groundline program that keeps a wood pole fleet serviceable: excavate and sound or bore each pole, measure residual shell and strength, apply remedial preservative treatment, reinforce with a stub or truss where economic, and replace the poles that fail the reject criteria. In IFS Cloud each pole is a Functional Object positioned against the circuit Linear Asset, the inspection cycle is a Maintenance Plan / PM Action, and strength, decay and treatment results are recorded as Measurements/Parameters so that reject and treat decisions are auditable. Rejected poles become change-out Work Orders or, at volume, a funded replacement Project with materials drawn from Inventory Part and Purchase Order.
Underground Cable Inspection, Testing & Replacement
Condition assessment and renewal of underground cable systems: manhole and vault inspection, cable and accessory diagnostics such as insulation resistance, VLF withstand, tan delta and partial discharge, fault location, and programmed section replacement or rejuvenation. In IFS Cloud the cable run is a Linear Asset segmented between terminations and splices, while joints, terminations, switchgear and network transformers sit as Functional or Serial Objects, and diagnostic results are captured as Measurements/Parameters against the tested section. Test results drive a disposition of return to service, retest sooner, rejuvenate or replace, and the replacement volume is planned as a Project with cable and accessory demand flowing through Inventory Part and Purchase Order.
Vegetation Inspection Planning & Clearance Assessment (NERC FAC-003)
Plans and executes the recurring vegetation inspection programme for NERC-applicable transmission line rights-of-way and assesses observed clearance against the Minimum Vegetation Clearance Distance (MVCD) for each voltage class. In IFS Cloud the applicable circuits and ROW spans are modelled as Linear Asset segments, the inspection cycle is driven from Maintenance Plan / PM Action, and findings are captured on inspection Work Orders and Work Tasks. The resulting dated inspection records become the primary FAC-003-5 R6 compliance evidence.
Cathodic Protection Test Point & Rectifier Inspection
Inspection and reading of cathodic protection test points and rectifiers (O&M-INSP-18/20) across the buried pipeline network to verify corrosion protection levels, triggering CP remediation or rectifier repair where readings are out of range.
Asset Register & GIS Synchronization
Establish and maintain a complete register of distribution assets (mains, valves, hydrants, service connections, PRVs, meters) in the EAM system, synchronized with the utility GIS so that spatial features and maintainable objects stay aligned. GIS typically remains the system of record for location and connectivity while EAM holds the maintenance, cost, and work history view. EPA asset management guidance makes the asset inventory the foundational component of the asset management plan.
Leak Detection & Active Leakage Control
Run an active leakage control program per AWWA M36: complete the annual IWA/AWWA water audit to quantify real losses, prioritize areas (district metered areas, zone flow analysis, minimum night flow), execute acoustic leak detection surveys (correlators, loggers, listening), pinpoint and raise repair work, and manage pressure where beneficial. Finding leaks proactively - before they surface - reduces non-revenue water and main break escalation.
Sewer Main CCTV Inspection & Condition Assessment
Systematic closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspection of gravity sewer mains with NASSCO PACP condition coding. Defects are graded 1-5, condition scores are recorded against linear sewer assets, and grade 4/5 defects trigger rehabilitation work orders, feeding risk-based renewal planning consistent with EPA CMOM program expectations.
Manhole Inspection & Rehabilitation
Programmatic inspection of manholes using NASSCO MACP condition coding (Level 1 screening and Level 2 detailed inspections), identification of structural defects and inflow/infiltration sources, and generation of rehabilitation work (sealing, lining, frame/cover replacement) prioritized by condition.
Non-Revenue Water / Water Loss Management
Run the AWWA M36/IWA water audit cycle: compile the annual water balance, validate data and grade validity, quantify real and apparent losses (ILI), and execute loss-reduction interventions - leak detection surveys, pressure management, meter testing, and unauthorized-use investigation - as work on the distribution network.
Everything you can see here is real and current, the names, the structure and the counts come straight out of the ModelIFS library and change as it grows. What sits behind the license is the worked-out content itself: the execution steps, the data each one needs, the configuration decisions, the KPIs, the integration points, the workshop questions and the diagrams. That is the part you would otherwise spend a program building from nothing.
